Greetings readers, please give a warm welcome to the band Negative Wall from Atlanta Georgia;
Tommy Stewart (bass, vox) Dennis Reid (drums, vox) Don Cole (guitar, vox)
1- Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief description of the group? Where is the band from? (Tommy Stewart)- Negative Wall is from Atlanta, Georgia, USA! We're a three piece metal band writing science fiction stories and applying them to a blues style within a doom metal frame. For instance, the song entitle Imperii Exsules was inspired by a sixties Outer Limits TV show episode called The Zanti Misfits.
2- Gammagelu is the band's first full album, how long did it take to write?
TS - This is an interesting question. From first practice to a finished master took fourteen days. We came to the first rehearsal and jammed out the songs to write the music. That took seven days. Then we went into my studio and recorded the instrument tracks. I had some partially written ideas about the lyrics, but mainly sat down and recorded myself alone doing the vocals and completed the lyrics simultaneously. The mastering happened overnight and there it is. 14 days from band's first rehearsal to completion of album.
3- What musical influence inspires the bands compositions?
TS - All three of us are very different in many ways, but have a lot in common too. I think this was a case of us bringing different influences that were almost similar to the table. Don Cole, guitarist, brought in some very bluesy guitar style that is highly featured throughout the mix because he is so amazing. Dennis Reid is not the most complex drummer, but he sure can pound them hard and he tends to play exactly what I would have asked him to play. I'm a huge doom fan, but I probably encouraged a bit of a Pink Floyd feel to show up. 4- The group started in 2018, can you tells us how did you meet? TS - We've all known each other for years and played together in various situations. Dennis and I have also played in Bludy Gyres and Tommy Stewart's Dyerwulf together. I came from Hallows Eve and the other two knew me from listening to that band originally.
5- The new album title is Gammagelu, can you give us details about the content and more in depth meaning to this title? TS - It is rough Latin meaning the ice or frost of gamma. Like some of my lyrics, it's part of invented language that gets the feel or image across by it's sound, not so much it's precise meaning.
6- Each member of this project is part of another band, how do you maintain a good balance working together? TS - First, we do enjoy each other's company so we work well together. Also we handle our music careers seriously and know we have to get it done because we're all busy. Scheduling and be serious about respecting each other's time is very important and we do that well. 7- Have you performed any shows in your area? if so, how receptive and supportive are the people to your music? TS - We've only performed one show and it was a blast! We had our black and white lab scene backdrop behind us, all white lights only, dirty lab coats, and make up to make us look like we're in black and white TV. So we look like we are in 'black and white'! I gathered cell phone footage of it and made a video of it. You can find it on youtube and here is the link:
8- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about? TS - We're planning on some shows during Fall 2019 in the USA.
9- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band, in case someone wants to book or promote the band? Any final words? TS - Thank you for the interview, I appreciate being able to explain some things! You can contact Negative Wall at tstew667@gmail.com or hear and contact at negativewall-bandcamp. 1- Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief description of the group? Where is the band from?
Thanks for the interest, Witchgöat is a band formed with the idea of retaking the old-school brutality of early Latin American and European thrash metal, adding a bit of the melodic aspect of the school of blackened death metal bands of the nineties. Witchgöat is formed by Salvadoran musicians with some experience in this musical genre.
2- Egregors of the Black Faith is the band's debut full album, how long did it take to write?
I started writing the songs for the project at the beginning of 2016, with the idea of awakening the interest of some musician friends in the Salvadoran scene who soon joined the project, and the composition of the music for this album was finished at the beginning of 2017. There is a song "Putrefaction of Souls" (that was composed in 1991 for my first band called Funeral), this song was never recorded before so I decided to retake it and made arrangements to incorporate it to the album. Although the album was composed since the beginning of 2017, there were some setbacks to coordinate with the rest of the band and to prepare the songs. It took us just over a year to be ready to record all the instruments, time in which M. Miasma composed the majority of lyrics for the album.
3- What musical influence inspires the bands compositions?
Some of us are not so young anymore, we have been listening to metal music since the eighties and we played our instruments since the early nineties, I would say that our influence comes from those days, from music like the early Sepultura, Sarcofago, Bathory, the melodic lead guitar of Coroner, the old sound of Mercyful Fate, the speed metal of Running Wild and Motorhead. Much of the music that was played in those days was quite melodic and catchy, bands like Exorcist, the early sound of Possessed and Death. There is also something of the sound of minor third harmonies developed extensively by the Swedish and Norwegian bands of the nineties ... we try to incorporate a bit of all the music we love and have been fans of all of our lives.
4- The group started in 2016, can you tell us what inspired your ambition to begin the project?
El Salvador is a very small country, underdeveloped and not much known, but we want to show that here we also share the spirit of primitive brutality that made great metal music from South America and the whole world. We spit our version of the metal music from the third world trying to collaborate with our effort to the development of this kind of music in the Central American region. Many of the current bands in El Salvador do a good job, bands like Conceived by Hate have set precedents coming up on European tours, bands like Invocation of Death, Morbid Stench, Conflicto just show very good potential, we hope to be part of that family of bands that put El Salvador on the metal scene map.
5- Can you give us details about the content and more in depth meaning to this new album?
In terms of the lyrics we touched topics related to SLM, war and psychotic illness.
6- In the beginning was it difficult to find musicians to collaborate with? did the band start out with one or two members? or did everyone come together at the same time? After composing the first two songs, drummer E.Driller joined the band, he takes part of other projects in which I had the opportunity to participate. He showed interest in the new music and accepted to play for the new band. A few months later I asked M. Miasma for help, besides his talent as a great musician, he had the right voice for the project and, above all, he shares with me the same philosophical vision about what a band of this kind of metal should be. He accepted to be the vocalist and immediately recruited bassist C.Fog who is also a musician of great experience in the local bands of El Salvador. This is how by the end of 2016 the band was all complete, and in early 2017 we began to work on developing the compound themes.
7- The demo Umbra Regit originally recorded July 2018, how well was it received by the metal fans from your area?
Umbra Regit was the pilot demo that we recorded in parallel while preparing the debut album. Its sound is quite different from the album, it has a precarious production since it was totally produced by the members of the band in home studios. However, I think it has an honest sound and by listening to this demo you can already appreciate all the elements of the music of Witchgöat. Being a pilot test, a very limited edition was produced on tape , which was sold out in preorder, which was quite surprising. The review of the demo was generally positive and this encouraged us to continue working and improving the elements of the sound of the debut album.
8- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about? At the moment we don’t rule out performing concerts locally organizing with other Morbid Skull Records bands. El Salvador is a small country and it is easy to cover the entire territory in a few shows. Later on, if there is an opportunity to promote the album and organize concerts outside of our territory, we would be very interested.
9- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band, in case someone wants to book or promote the band? Any final words?

Welcome readers, it is my pleasure to introduce you all to NEX, modern Death metal band from Poland.
1- Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief description of the group?
(Nomad)-Hi, There! Nex is a modern death metal band formed in 2013 in Szczecin Poland. Our music is a mix of various styles and ideas on how metal should sound like in our heads. I’ve heard people comparing us to Gojira, Behemoth, Vader, all-at-once, nothing they’ve heard before… So as you can see there is plenty to choose from (laughs). I think that the word “modern” describes us best.
2- World Collapses is the band's debut LP, how long did it take to write and was this a collaborative work or did one person write all the music?
(Nomad)-It took us nearly two years to create this material. We were brand new to the music industry and did not know where to start actually. Thought we knew one thing – we wanted this album to be as good as we could make it in all terms, technically, musically, lyrically and every other “ly” one could imagine (laughs). Also, it was definitely a collaborative work. Everyone of us brought their very own piece into this album.
3- What musical influence inspires the Lps compositions? (Nomad)-Gojira, Behemoth, Vader, Decapitated, Cynic, Septicflesh, Cynic, Misery Index, Lamb of God and many, many more. 4- As far as live performances, how receptive are audiences to the music?
(Nomad)-So far so good – The biggest show we have ever played was for around 200 people and the enthusiasm shared before, during, and after the show was just amazing! And the best think about that is that rule does not only apply to bigger audience. We have also played smaller shows and the reaction is nearly always the same – people like our music and we are proud of it very much. I think we have the best audience there is and when they get to know us they stay for longer and want to hear more from us. From this point I would like to say “thank you” to everyone supporting us. You Rule!
5- The title of this Lp is World Collapses, can you give us details about the content and more in depth meaning to this title?
(Nomad)-It is a concept album describing a story of human kind and their obsession with power. How one soul can redefine the world order and how man can change by the pressure of their surroundings. It is also behind the scenes of becoming a Totalitarian Leader.
6- The band started in 2014, Was it difficult to find musicians to collaborate with? did the band start out with one or two members? or did everyone come together at the same time?
(Nomad)-Our former guitarist Sova left the note on the internet that he was looking for a members to join his band that was actually in the process of making. It was December 2013, I moved to Szczecin from Warsaw and was also looking for someone to play with. It was a match. We quickly started looking for a rehearsal’s room and when we found it, some guy messaged us nearly instantly if we had some spare space so he could leave his amp and play from time to time. We just skipped the message as we did not know him. Oh, and I forgot – this guy’s nickname was Brooda (Laughs). Not so long after this message we figured that he could be the guy to join us. That’s it for the origins of Nex as far as I recall.
7- What are the band's future plans? is there going to be a full length in the future?
(Nomad)-Definitely! We are in the process of making music for the new album. Currently we are also searching for the new Vocalist and Guitarist as Sova left the band, not so long ago, due to personal reasons. We fully understand him and wish him all the best.
8- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?
(Nomad)-We do not want to spoil the future. First things first, we have to find a new member. We will keep everyone posted on our fan page.
9- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band? in case someone wants to book or promote the band? Any final words? Thank You! The best way to contact us is to message us either on our fan page facebook.com/nexpoland/ or via e-mail nexpoland@gmail.com. And remember, even though there is a difficult time in front of us, we’re not dead yet.
NEX sets January 31st as an international release date for their album "The World Collapses"!
Nex to nowoczesny zespół deathmetalowy założony w 2013 roku w Szczecinie.
Gojira, Behemot, Vader, Decapitated, Cynic, Septicflesh, Cynic, Misery Index, Baranek Boży i wiele, wiele innych.
Szybko zaczęliśmy szukać pokoju prób, a kiedy go znaleźliśmy, jakiś facet niemal natychmiast przesłał nam wiadomości, jeśli mieliśmy trochę wolnego miejsca, żeby od czasu do czasu zostawić swój wzmacniacz i grać.
W pełni go rozumiemy i życzymy wszystkiego najlepszego.
