Itnuveth - The Way of the Berserker

Itnuveth is a Viking Pagan Black Metal band from Spain. Members include Lianne (Vocals), Volundr (guitar&bass). Established in July 2014.

The Way of the Berserker album released under Xtreem Music October 18th 2014. The album starts off with a clean strumming guitar and female spoken word. My first impression is, this is a classic sounding record. The band manages to capture the early metal era of sound production. At times I forget that there are only two members creating this opus. The album has many interesting moments. Some of the songs that stuck out most in mind were Skoll, the opening riff is catchy and memorable. I found myself playing this track many times. Chaotic Chasm, raw and gritty black metal hymns. Lianne is probably one of the best, it is rather short but its melody stuck in my head and I found myself listening to it several times. My only complaint is the production is really raw, maybe on the next release it could be better unless this is what they are looking for, but I prefer a cleaner sound, beyond that I liked every song nonetheless.

In conclusion, a great release, if you like the old school sound of the metal genre than this is one to check out. The band lives up to the Viking Pagan description. Many well traveled passages of dark adventures are awaiting for you in this album.

Sepultura - recording Arise at Morrison Studios

Rare footage of Sepultura recording their album Arise at Morrison Studio. The album was released March 20 1991 through Roadrunner records. "In August 1990, the band traveled to Florida to work on the album. Scott Burns reprised his role as producer and audio engineer, and now with a major advantage: Sepultura were at his home studio, Morrisound, a studio properly equipped to record their music style. Their label Roadrunner granted a $40,000 budget, which helped explain the album's improved production values. That allowed Igor and Burns, for example, to spend a whole week just testing the drum kit's tunings and experimenting with microphone practice". Wikipedia.

'Blackhearts' Prescreening

Blastfest is proud to offer an exclusive prescreening of a brand new documentary. A surprising look at the people beneath the corpse paint – from Tehran and Athens to Bogotá and finally... Norway.

25 years ago, black metal music was born on a dark stage in Norway. The genre won fast popularity for its controversial connection to a series of murders, suicides, church burnings, and supposedly Satanic acts.

Blackhearts dives right into the scene’s dark underbelly - but from a very unexpected angle. No one has witnessed the black metal scene quite like this. The film takes you to South America, Europe and Iran on a journey into the minds, hearts and personal lives of three black metal diehards from different cultural, religious and political backgrounds. It shows how the genre has taken root in their countries and explores just how far they are willing to go – risking alienation, and even death – to play black metal and live by its ideology.

The makers elaborate and provide a little insight to some the individuals exposed in the documentary, "In Iran we meet Sina, the Islamic country’s only black metal artist. He faces severe punishment – life in jail, or even death – if caught breaking Iran’s strict Sharia law by playing the blasphemous western music. But he’s been doing it for over 15 years."

"Hector is a practicing Satanist in a country that’s 90% Catholic. We go deep into his life of ritual and Beast worship in Colombia – and watch as he raises his teenage son to be just like him, living a life of social alienation and poverty."

"Giorgos Germenis (commonly known as Kaiadas from the band Naer Mataron) holds a position in Greek parliament as lawmaker for right-wing extremist party, Golden Dawn. In 'Blackhearts' we meet him and his band as they fight to keep their passion for the band alive with the always changing climate of Greek politics."

"Blackhearts takes you right into the heart of it all, as you watch wide-eyed at the unfolding of events, and both laugh and cringe at the things people say and do and believe – all in the name of black metal."
