Torrens Conscientium - All Alone With The Thoughts

Torrens Conscientium is a three piece band consisting of Sergei Korolyov, Alina Tishenko, Sergei Rachinskii. Genre described as Doom Metal. Band origin Simferopol (Crimea)

All Alone With The Thoughts album released on October 20th 2014, Solitude Productions. I spent a considerable amount of time listening to this album to the point of obsession. The music has a way of wrapping its dark tentacles around your mind. With many bands starting to explore the doom metal genre, it is hard to find bands that know how to do it well. This band managed to capture the essence of those doom metal roots and are highlighted well in the projection of each and every riff in this album. The production is great, the guitars sound really good on both clean strumming passages as well as the heavier distorted riffs. The bass is pronounced and well defined. Solid and crushing drum sound. To be honest, this is one of those albums that once you hit the play button, you can just let every song play in full and never skip any of them. If I must pick a favorite, it would be "Immersion", this track is just monumental in its melodies and heavy transitions. The drums just make this song intense at every turn and the dual low and high vocals are done perfectly evoking deep and dark emotions, it is absolutely amazing to my ears and I never get tired of listening to it. Hitcher, thunderous in its delivery, the opening is wall shattering. The vocals are just brutal and destructive and fit the massive riffs perfectly. The melodic clean symphonies linger in my head and are memorable long after the song is finished. Being Lonely, one of the longer tracks on this album but, a most epic and dark experience for my ears. Consider the fact that the albums I listen to consist of 80% death metal, it is seldom that I find myself enjoying a good and well executed doom metal album such as this.

In conclusion, the band has created an epic and memorable album that can rival most doom bands out there. Think of bands like Paradise Lost, Novembers Doom, End of Green and Dreadful Shadows. An album that should not be passed up and it is worth adding to your collection.

Hacavitz - Darkness Beyond

Hacavitz is a four piece band consisting of Antimo Bounanno - Vox & Guitar, Ivan Ochoa - Guitars, Cesar "Led" Sanchez - Drums, Ulises Sanchez - Bass. Genre described as Black Metal. Band origin Mexico

Darkness Beyond album released on February 24 2015 on Dark Descent Records. Seven bone crushing hymns of madness and torture in classic B/M style. Catchy and well thought out arrangements. The production is very solid. Raw distorted guitars and powerful drums. The vocals are spine shaking and are heavy on the reverb effect which adds to the evil being projected. With a large amount of bands exploring this style, the band does not break any new ground but hold their own ground with its gritty and punishing riffs. Some of the tracks that stood out the most to me would have to be "Livskit", reminds me of old Mayhem rhythms. De Humo Negro y Ceniza which is translated to Of Black Smoke and Ashes, obviously the lyrics are mostly in spanish but I was still able to make out the evil verses with no problem. Time Is Now, this particular song reminds me of old Behemoth with its clever and catchy phrases and devastating slow crushing progression.

In conclusion, a well delivered slab of evil with the b/m roots well established and defined. fans of early black metal bands like Behemoth, Demonic Christ, Bathory, Mayhem and Black Witchery will want to add this one to their collection.

The Whorehouse Massacre - Altar of the Goat Skull/VI

The Whorehouse Massacre is a four piece band consisting of W.P. Guitars, Drums, Bass, Vocals , K.H. Bass , K.M. Guitar, Bass , (S.S. Solo on Bowels of Hell and Artwork)
Genre described as black/death metal. Band origin Canada.

Altar of the Goat Skull/VI album released on February 20th 2015 Transcending Obscurity. Raw to the bone. Here is some meaty are destructive metal for you guys into raw and dirty recordings. The album consisting of thirteen songs of pure darkness. The music is rooted in the old ways of the b/m genre. Thinking of bands like Grave, old Satyricon, Samael or Bathory. In terms of production, it sounds like they kept everything simple, no overproduction, just straight forward recording. Heavy distorted guitars and simple drum production. Some of the songs that peaked my ears were, End of Mankind, Sewer Dreams and Altar of the Goat Skull. Although I prefer a better production, I still found the song arrangements and the raw quality reminiscent of the old days of the metal  when the genre was just making waves.

In conclusion, the album captures the essence of the early days of B/M. If you like that obscure and raw sound, than this will most likely peak your interest.

AGOS - Irkalla Transcendence

Agos is a one man band consisting of  Van Gimot - All instruments & Vocals and Astrous - Lyrical and visual concept. Genre described as black metal. Band origin Greece.

Irkalla Transcendence EP released on January 30th 2015 on III Damnation Productions. Consisting of only three tracks, this release packs a huge punch. The power and relentless brutality comes pouring through from the moment you hit the play button. Destructive drum sound with fierce double bass kicks breaking walls. Solid and furious guitar tone and punishing bass sound. I always enjoy listening to one man band projects. Its takes great talent to be able to play and record all the different instruments and keep it all sounding strong and precise. Akkadian Cenotaph plays through with a savage attack and heavy growling vocals. "Of Salt and Blood: The Rabisu's Rebellion", is intense and will make you want to punch things. Finally, Irkalla Transcendence plays and sets a different tone with melodic singing and complex riffing, in contrast to the other two songs this track has its own characteristics.

In conclusion, a short but crushing release. The music in intense and never gets boring. A good amount complex riffing and very involved drums make this one to be played at a high volume. Fans of death/black metal will want to add this to their collection.

Whispering Woods - Perditus et Dea

Whispering Woods is a seven piece band consisting of members Alexandra Burcă – soprano, Corina Hamat – mezzo soprano, Cătălina Popa – flute, Cora Miron – keyboards, Alex Dascăl – drums, Istvan Vlădăreanu – bass guitar, Doru Căilean – lead guitar, Genre described as Symphonic/Gothic/Doom Metal. Band origin Cluj-Napoca.

Perditus et Dea album released on Loud Rage Music on February 2015. The album consist of twelve songs. I spent a few weeks listening to this album. The melodies and amazing compositions can be found in each song. From the moment I hit the play button the clean guitar instantly grabbed my attention. Alexandra's vocals are great. They come thru with perfect clarity in the second song "Original Sin". The production quality is great, considered all the instruments that are involved, everything comes thru with good balance and tone. Not a surprise because it was mixed and mastered by well-known Finnish producer Hiili Hiilesmaa (HIM, Amorphis, Swallow The Sun). The majority of the music I listen to is death metal and black metal, so listening to this album was a breath of fresh air. Some of the more stand out tracks would be My Altar, Poetica, CăluÈ™arii and Circle Complete

In conclusion, the music creates epic adventures and will grab your senses from the start. The melodic vocals and interwoven arrangements are well thought out and have a way of lingering in your imagination. Fans of goth, doom and melodic metal will want to add this to their collection.

Frosthelm is a four piece band consisting of members Jim Cherry-Bass, Dakota Irwin-Guitars, Tyler Pfliger-Vocals, Shannon Frye-Drums. Genre described as black/death metal. Band origin Bismarck, ND.

The Endless Winter album released on 22 March 2015 Black Work (Alkemy Brothers). It has been several weeks since I lend my ears to this release. An excellent blend of black/death melodies and complex arrangements. Direct and relentless in its delivery. It is one of those albums that I can listen to from start to finish and never get tire of it. Great production quality, solid, heavy distortion and punishing drums. The track "Hell Between Us", is worth cranking up. Fast grinds and torturous screams. "Tomb of Sordid Ruin", is another favorite of mine, catchy melodies and savage chorus lines. "Forlorn Tides" is another stand out song.

In conclusion, the album delivers brutality on all levels. The underground community will take notice as this release makes waves reaching new ears.
