Psychara - Feature Model #17 3/2013

Happy to introduce everyone to Psychara, alternative model from the Netherlands.

1- What inspired you to do modeling? Was there a point early in your life that sparked your interest?
I wore this alternative style since I was 11 or 12 (well, very babygoth-y in the beginning ofc!) and photographers ask me to model for them when I was around 16, because they liked my style so much! c: So since then I'm doing modeling and photographers ask me to work with them or model stuff for companies!

2- You have dark elements to your style, was there an event or moment that made you decide on your style?
I grew up with the gothic metal music my dad listened to, and I always liked that music as well. I noticed the beautiful clothing they wore and I just absolutely adored it! Nothing really 'dark' happened to me, I'm just a regular girl with a unregular look! ^ 3^

3- Name some of your favorite music or bands?
I actually listen to a lot of kinds of genres. From metal to Drum and Bass, and industrial to even Celtic music.
I reeeaaally like Korn, but only their olskool work! Angelspit rocks too, such as Rob Zombie and I even like Lana Del Rey! Very varied music taste, yeah. c:

4- Name some of your accomplishments or highlights of your career so far?
Unfortunately, there aren't any alternative model agencies here in the Netherlands.. And at the moment, I'm way too busy with school to be full-time modelling..
I'm still in college, last year of the study Graphic Design. This September I will be moving out, to the other side of country to go to an Art school! Very excited.
Don't think I have accomplished very much yet, both in modelling or my work as an graphic designer/illustrator. My life just begun! ^ 3^

5- Do you enjoy regular photoshoots? or ones where you get to play a character?
I LOVE doing gore or fantasy themed shoots, because I can go even more crazy with that as in regular shoots! The most boring shoots are in my eyes shoots in studios. I prefer on location, I can do so much more with the environment on location.. I don't want to be a model who's just gonna stay there and be pretty, I love doing sick poses and work with the place I am at.

6- What other interest do you have besides modeling?
I love to illustrate and to party! I also really love animals and horror movies!

7- Are there any significant projects or events you are looking forward to in the coming months?
The Elf Fantasy Fair is coming up here! It's a fantasy event which is held every year here in the Netherlands. This time will be the 8th time I go there and I'm working on an epic faun costume!

8- If someone is interested in hiring you (modeling agency, bands, producers, etc..) where is the best place to get a hold of you?

Devils Rage - Rise of Insanity

Melodic death metal from Sursee Switzerland. The project began in 2006 as two members and are current a five piece beast. The first track from this EP is a clean guitar intro with some eerie voice samples, very good beginning. First song is "Because of You" catchy riffs starts nice vocal attacks, remind me of old In Flames or The Haunted. "Exit" much faster than the first song, aggressive riffs and more double kick action on the drums. The Devils Rage track shows great dynamics of the rhythm section, however did not build into anything else towards its finale. The band has moved to a couple of different rehearsal spaces in the past years and working on maintaining a solid drummer. This EP is a full conception currently with five members. "Glorious Liberation" is my favorite song of the entire composition, the riffs are memorable, although I expected to hear some solo work it never materialized.  "Inhuman" I hear a heavy Amon Amarth influence on the majority of this track, gallop style arrangements make this song interesting to my ears along with some harmonized guitar riffs. "Stupid" is the last song, in the middle of the song I hear some riff drops with drums maintaining the cymbal count, more of a newer approach to the style. There is much more to explore and I look forward to seeing how this band will progress in the coming years.

BioDax - Feature model #15 3/2013

Introducing BioDax industrial dancer/model

1- What inspired you to do modeling? Was there a point early in you life that sparked your interest?

Each day I am seeing a lot of people who are afraid to express themselves or doing so only where they are alone or something like that. So I have decided to do some expression of my own, and modeling is one of the things that I can go with.

2- There a dark elements to your style, was there an event or moment that made you decide on this style?

Let's face it, life isn't made only of bright colors or everything that is nice and sweet. Where there is light there are also shadows. I think it all started with some metal concerts and little by little I got where I am now.

3- Name some of your favorite music or bands?

At a moment I really like industrial music. Such bands as Phosgore, Centhron, Alien Vampires, Agonoize, Chainreactor, Nachtmahr, Wynardtage.
Then there is metal. I used to listen to Slipknot, Debauchery, Arch Enemy, Machine Head and many more.

4- Name some of your accomplishments or highlights of your career so far?

So far my photos are only being shared on facebook and on it's pages. I don't even consider that as as accomplishment really.

5- Do you enjoy regular photoshoots? or ones where you get to play a character?

I enjoy both regular and the photoshoots where i get to play a character. But sometimes i prefer something original.

6- What other interest do you have besides modeling?

Besides modeling I love dancing. I can call myself an industrial dancer because this dancing style fits my current modeling style and i practice it every week. Then there goes piano playing. I don't play much but i now my way around the keyboard. I am also into science. My favorite things are physics and chemistry. I guess I love to know and to answer the question 'Why?'

7- Are there any significant projects or events you are looking forward to in the coming months?

There always ideas in my mind however they require time and good preparation. Meaning sometimes it is hard to do something with limited resources. Besides that I am always doing industrial dance videos-so far they are a success.

8- If someone is interested in hiring you (modeling agency, bands, producers, etc..) where is the best place to get a hold of you?

At the moment I live in Lithuania in the city called Kaunas. Kaunas is in the heart of Lithuania which means it is easy for me to travel to any place of my country.

Munkinpure - A Different Kind of Beat

Munkinpure is hard rock/alternative band from the UK. I really like the level of production on this EP, lots of clean guitars come through with great clarity. Starting with the first track "Killing Time" the main vocals/drums (Travis Marc) has a unique style, very distinct when you hear his voice. This song has a very catchy chorus an instantly sticks in your head the moment you hear it. "Better Than Ever" has great drums happening, lots of great rolls and fills- its impressive to hear that since drums are holding down the main vocals. The band started out in 2008 and were originally from South Africa where they played many venues and most definitely left their mark. They relocated to the UK in 2010. Other releases include "For Lack of a Better Word" EP and full length "This is Where The Money Went". Next up in my listening experience is "TV Credits" its great to hear a collaboration of vocal harmonies which blend beautifully together, great chemistry all around. We get a  blues style of playing on this one, my favorite part has got to be towards the end, there is a sweet solo that takes you by surprise and its a good one. "I Won't Be Your Valentine" reminds me of Foo Fighters at first, until the vocals kick in then goes into a more involved guitar playing at a faster pace melody which is great. "Cheekbones" is the last song, with a beautiful clean acoustic guitar accompanied by violin and meaningful lyric content this is my favorite track on the EP. This band is on the DIY spectrum of getting their music out which I have much respect for. It is surprising that no label has signed them, I feel their music can reach a vast audience.

Vexilla Regis Prodeunt Inferni - VRPI

Satanic death metal from Mexico. A five piece band bringing us hell itself in the form of old school death metal. The album is divided into nine chapters. "Serpents Council" begins our dark exploration of infernal nightmares. The intro is ominous and leads into a great DM style solo which kicks off the devastation. I am reminded of old Sinister or Deicide. "Ceremony of The Impure" with chants and double kick domination we get to hear the level of skill the drummer is possessing in this particular track. "Ravenous Apocalyptic Raids" is a short track almost reminiscent of Behemoth or Dimmu. "Towards Battlefields" killer grind beats can be heard along with raw guitars. "Purification by the Sword" very interesting guitar riffs begin this song and stick in my brain right away, the two create an interesting pitch harmony that is truly haunting to my senses. This band was conceived in the winter of 2009 and have a demo which was recorded in 2011. "Leviathans Coronation" is death metal to the bone, has got to be my favorite track from this album, you can literally sense a demon rising from the sea when you hear this song, it is wicked manifestation of evil. "Nine Kingdoms" start with a dual guitar dives and then into a memorable passage, I do enjoy hearing the chemistry between these to string players Santiago Alcocer and Jesus Inukai, you can also hear some dual demonic vocals taking place that resemble demonic possession of sorts, like speaking tongues. "Hunting and Sacrifice" has a very cool drum intro followed by some Terrorizer style riffs. "Necropolis Rising" ends my trip through hell, This last song has a very surprising ending, I was not expecting at all, a violin layers the last measures with great musical arrangement, a nice twist and enjoyable turn for my ears.  Overall the band captures the DM style perfectly, have great harmonies and interesting riffs, vocals are not to guttural but enough to make you cringe and exalt evil spirits. I recommend for fans of early Sepultura, Samael, Morbid Angel, or even Slayer Haunting the Chapel fans.

Nocturnium - Feature model #14 3/2013

Introducing - Nocturnium, Lady of Luna. Countess of the Occult. freelance model and reviewer for Metal-Rules.com

1-What inspired you to do modeling? Was there a point early in your life that sparked your interest?
I wouldn’t say I ever had the desire to model, but I always had an interest in art and style from a young age. It was a very recent decision to get into modeling. I was contacted by an agency, did a few shoots and decided I really enjoyed it! I had done a few in the past, mostly through an interest in art, working with published artists to create images for collections and gallery displays, but very little came of that, and despite not receiving pay, got none of my images back. I was very young and naive. Now I’m armed with the knowledge and the passion, it’s time to take on the alternative scene by force.

2-You have dark elements to your style, was there an event or moment that made you decide on your style?
I’ve always been drawn to darker images; I’ve never been able to explain why. When I was really young I used to see the 90s goths around and think of how much I wanted to be part of that scene. It’s been quite a few years, and I’ve gone through a lot of different style changes and scenes, but I feel like I’ve reached the point where I can stop looking. I don’t want to go so far as to say I’ve found myself, but I’ve stopped feeling uncomfortable in my own skin.
I think religion and fantasy have a strong influence on my style. Im not religious, never have been, but I had a religious upbringing and I think this has had a real influence on me. When I hit my teens I started reading into the occult and pagan religions, I also took an interest in books like Paradise lost. A lot of my current style is inspired by demons and images of evil.

3-Name some of your favorite music or bands?

My favorite music is definitely black, death and doom metal. I used to be into really generic shit right up until the age of 16 when a friend showed me DimmuBorgir, and it was all happened from there! Currently I’m really into Wodensthrone, AnaalNathrakh and Winterfylleth, their releases last year are incredible. Behemoth are always a constant favorite, and I have to mention Eye of Solitude, Craven Idol and Ancient Ascendant as a couple of my favorite up and coming local bands.

4-Name some of your accomplishments or highlights of your career so far?
Its always an accomplishment when photographers I’ve been admiring the work of ask me to shoot with them. Recently Simon Fairclough and Mark Perry asked me to model for them, which was such an honor! Getting picked to model for ASD latex was also a real highlight.

5- Do you enjoy regular photoshoots? or ones where you get to play a character?
I definitely prefer to play a character. I really like getting a theme and creating an image around that. I also feel more inspired when I have one. Regular shoots are also fun though. I get bored if I do the same thing for too long so I like to really mix up what I do.

6-What other interests do you have besides modeling?
I’m actually really passionate about music, particularly extreme metal. I help run a radio show playing picks from recent releases that week and music from older albums. We keep the first half fairly mainstream, run by my co-host, and then in the second hour I get to unleash hell!
I also love writing about it. I do a lot of gig and event reviews, sometimes they get published, which is always great but it’s mostly just done for love. It also means I have an excuse to go to lots of different events.
I don’t actually have a lot of other interests going at the moment. I used to be really into history and playing guitar but I’m coming to the end of third year at university so don’t get a lot of time anymore. I’m really considering trying a bit of chainmail when I finish, it looks fun and I never pass up the opportunity to play with power tools.

7-Are there any significant projects or events you are looking forward to in the coming months?
I’ve got a shoot with Kelsey Karnage, which I’m really excited about. Another photographer I’ve been admiring the work of.
It’s hard to say, Im not allowed to reveal at lot of it! Project tattoo starts soon though. I'm getting the bottom of two full sleeves done in the next couple of months, which will be my first sets. I’ve got all the tattoos I want planned out, it’s just earning the money for it really.

8-If someone is interested in hiring you (modeling agency, bands, producers, etc..) where is the best place to get a hold of you?

Email- nocturnium.model@gmail.com
I’m very easy to contact really, I’m always checking both constantly.
