Terreur Nocturne Special interview and album Solitude Post-Mortem

Terreur Nocturne

Règne (bassist), Oneiros (singer), Macchabée (guitars and art) & L'Aveugle (drums, sound engineer)

1- Hello and welcome to Metal Music News and Interviews. Our readers are excited to get to know you and your band. Could you give us a brief description of the band? Where is the band from?

Règne: Hello, thank you very much for your invitation! To describe our band briefly, I would say Terreur Nocturne was created in 2019 by our singer Oneiros in Marseille, south of France. It is a Melancholic Black Metal band exploring the Oniric Realm where Night Terrors take shape.

Onéiros: Indeed, I suffer from this parasomnia called Night Terrors my nightmares are really intense and they cause stressful and creepy sleepwalking episodes. Terreur Nocturne allows me to expiate it through depressive and melodic black metal music.

2- "Solitude Post-Mortem" is the band's new album. How long did it take to compose and record it?

Règne: It took us almost two whole years to compose, record and mix the album.

Oneiros: We started composition at the end of the 1st EP, when Macchabée joined the band as guitarist, and it took us the whole year of 2022 to create every music. Then, the recording phase began around October 2022 until the end of March 2023. Finally, our drummer and sound engineer L'Aveugle started to work on the mix around April/May and finished everything on September 1st with the final mastering.

3- What musical influences inspire the band's compositions?

Macchabée : Before I joined the band, TN was very much inspired by DSBM bands such as Pure and None, two bands our singer Oneiros dig a lot. Then, I joined the band and brought with me a more Melodic vibe, inspired by Seth, Dissection, Necrophobic and Immortal. Finally I would say our style is kind of Melodic and Depressive, that's why we present ourselves as a Melancholic Black Metal band.

Règne : We're all inspired by different metal styles, and that's reflected in the different tracks of “Solitude Post-Mortem”, for my part I can say that Afsky, Akhlys, Penitence Onirique and Ruins of beverast are bands I listen to a lot.

4- Can you tell us how did the members all meet?

Oneiros : Règne and I met in Marseille, and we decided to work together on the first EP called “Royaume Onirique”. During the recording process, we were searching for an artist for our logo and EP cover art : we decided to go with Macchabée Artworks, a very skillful artist Règne knew well as he had worked with him for his Dungeon Synth solo project. After some exchanges, Macchabée asked us to play a guitar solo as a guest on the EP, and then told us he loved the project so much that he wanted to join the band as an official member. We accepted. Finally, a good friend of Macchabée called L'Aveugle joined the band at the end of 2022 as session drummer, and then official drummer and sound engineer mid-2023.

5- The new album is called “Solitude Post-Mortem”. Why did you choose this name?

Macchabée : We chose this album title to pay tribute to all the people who die alone, with no one by their sides, thus spending the rest of their death in loneliness, far away from their loved ones who had already forgotten them. And on a more general basis, our album deals with all kinds of Loneliness : from depression to chosen retreat, as well as abuse and harassment.

Oneiros : The theme of “Solitude Post-Mortem” comes from the fact that I work in funeral homes, and being witness of so much loneliness has affected me a lot. Through this title I wanted to pay homage to these deceased, who died in complete solitude.

6- Are the current members of this band part of another band or project? Or is everyone dedicated solely to Terreur Nocturne? How do you maintain a good balance working together?

Règne : Most of us have other musical projects. For my part, I have my eponymous Dungeon synth project called REGNE, as well as a melodic metal studio project called Gullinbursti. But TN is our baby, and for all of us it takes priority over our other projects.

Oneiros : For my part TN is my top priority, but I can just say that with Règne a new project is being born in parallel but everyone will know more about that when the time comes.

Macchabée : I sometimes do guest guitar solos here and there, and I work with TOMBALE on an upcoming Atmospheric Black Metal EP. On another level, I work part time as Macchabée Artworks : I create art, covers, logos and merch designs for metal bands all over the world.

7- Have you performed any shows in your area? If so, how receptive and supportive are the people of your music?

Oneiros : We haven't performed on stage yet. But, in the near or distant future we can say it is planned. So far the reception of the album has been very good.

8- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

Règne : We can't tell now... but we're working on the next releases, and maybe shows (the future will tell !) but no spoilers for the moment ;)

9- Thanks for your participation. Finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band just in case someone wants to book or promote the band? Any final words?

Règne : We're very easy to reach on our various networks, whether it's the band's Facebook, Bandcamp, Instagram or mail, or even on our own networks. And to conclude, I'd like to thank you for the interest you've shown in our project.

Macchabée : If you've liked Solitude Post-Mortem, you're going to love its sequel !

Oneiros : Thank you for this interview! May the nightmares of the Oniric Realm come to haunt you soon my friend !
