Russian Death Metal Vol. 5

Symbol Of Domination, Armaada Art, American Line, Sevared Records and Darknagar Records present this massive release featuring eighteen extreme death metal bands from Russia.

The opening band is The Mutilator, "Decent Elimination", with a name like that you know its going to be intense. They surely deliver aggression, surprisingly there is a clean melodic riff that comes out of nowhere and its a nice touch. Next we have, House of The Butcher, with blasting double kicks and blistering speed, they waste no time crushing the senses. Band number three are called Contrabandist with the song "Fat Fitness", brutal and potent, the bass lines really stand out and its a great song to jam to. Number four is the band Brainteasers, the song is "Little Fucker Factor", guttural and massive is my first impression, maybe not as fast as the previous bands, but, I think that's what makes them stand out. Number five is the band Cane Will Rise with the song "Born in Sand", low to high death metal vocals and massive double kick drums are presented with menacing force, great production too, I definitely played this one several times. Number six is the band Embodied Deception with the track "Playing With Your Mind", catchy riffs and very potent vocal attack, no shortage of brutality here, the solo in this song delighted my ears. In short, pure intensity and delivery of aggression. Number seven is the band Corvus Lives Again with the song "Shail", a dual vocal attack is noticeable at the onset, catchy riffs and strong bass lines are expressed with precision, a definite stand out from this compilation. Number eight is the band The Faceless Hunter, and their song "The Prophet", certainly different opening to this compare to the previous bands. I will have to say that this is a more progressive composition and is a bit technically in writing style. Number nine is the band Rotting Butcher with"Eaten By Sakhalin", my first impression is the embodiment of classic death metal style, simple yet devastating and catchy. Next band is Unplexiety with "Extreme Reality",  complex riffs fill my ears. An exciting mix of progression and brutality, I will be definitely looking for more music by this band. There's a lot happening in this song, very proficient musicians indeed. Number eleven is Marble Carrion with "Vitoria", extreme guttural sample, imaging someone is meeting their end, then the music hits and it just comes in with pure velocity, punishing sounds at every turn, its worthy of playing this track several times, crushing. Number twelve is Rage Of Kali with "With Clusters Stand Divides", a punishing assault with penetrating riffs, low gutturals will send chills down your spine. Next is number thirteen Poghost with "The Dicktator", compare to the past few bands, these guys are raw. Next up is number fourteen, Teodolit with "Blood Soaked Revenge", another dual vocal attack, blistering drums heavy bass tones and punishing guitar riffs, spin this one several times. Number fifteen is the band 602 with "Axes", wishing the drums could be more audible but not a huge deal, I like the solos and creative bass lines. Next is number sixteen the band The Serpent and The Rainbow, with their song "Seeker", an interesting mix with keyboards and a mix of high vocals and gutturals, certainly a welcome change compared to the previous bands. Number eighteen is The Nameless with "The Last Word", a much different approach taking from the classic dm style of early nineties, its fiiting and easy to get into. Finally we have Bridge To Infinity, the song is "The Storm Is Coming", progressive riffs and melodic passage are a welcome to my ears after listening to a monument of heavy tones, this is well executed and features some nice melodies mix with brutality. ~Artemortifica

VERRÄTER/SXUPERION - split

VERRÄTER/SXUPERION. Verrater is a three piece band, members are only known as J-Vocals . D-Guitar. N-Drums live situation C-Live Guitar , B-Live Bass. Music style is listed as, Black Metal. Band location, Nebraska. Sxuperion one man project, obscure.

VERRÄTER/SXUPERION split released on BloodyMountain Records & Sordid Curse Productions November 25 2015. My initial thoughts on this release are, raw knuckle and clenched teeth as I make my journey through this maze of horrors. The gritty production invoke a certain detail to this split. Verrater is first up on the release. Their brand of malevolence features high screams with fast tremolo guitar work. It can paralyze your thoughts. They offer us three songs on this split. My favorite would be "Vagrant". Next up is SxuperioN, a bit different in production than their predecessor, but still aggressive and pummeling. The vocals are low and more guttural. A savage exhibition is aroused. Maniacal and evil in its inception. Four tracks are realized. Among my favorite would be Vibration III. The supernatural invocation is eminent and resonates forth with this grand spectacle.

In conclusion, both bands deliver a raw and brutal music. The production is bare bones but adds to the overall feeling they are projecting.

Primitive Man / Northless Split

Primitive Man, is a three piece band made up of, Ethan Lee McCarthy - Guitars & Vocals. Jonathan Campos - Bass. Isidro Spy - Drums. Artwork by Ethan Lee McCarthy. Northless is a four piece band made up of, Nicholas Elert - Guitar. Jerry Hauppa - Bass. John Gleisner - Drums. Erik Stenglein - Guitar & Vocals. Band locations, Primitive Man - Denver, CO. Northless - Milwaukee. Music style is listed as, Sludge, doom, metal.

Primitive Man / Northless split to be released March 4th 2016 on Halo of Flies. Kicking things of is Primitive Man. The trembling wave of destruction can be felt upon hitting the play button. Powerful dissonance of low tuned strings and howling screams of the beyond. The material is raw an abrasive. Dirty and sludgy distorted guitar riffs. The song is fifteen minutes long and shakes the ground.

Next up is Northless, they offer us three bone crushing, grit and descending arrangements. With maniacal screams, crust ambiance fills the air waves. The band explores dark corridors and untouched realms of dissonance that are ignored by most. The experience is both intense and strange. My favorite song would be "Wasted Breath", its natural sound and long passages resonate with despair and hopelessness.

In conclusion, both bands embrace all that is chaotic and devastating. A manifestation of grit and doom is exalted into the mortal realm with crushing results.

Curse / Styggelse / WAN Necroholic split

Curse is a two piece band made up of,  Eldur - Vocals, Guitars, Bass. Tybald - Drums. Styggelse, is a five piece band made up of, Skadeglade - Drums. Kallbrand - Guitar. Larsson - Vocals. Desekrator - Guitar. Thunderbolt - Bass. WAN: is a four piece band made up of, Tsjud - Vocals. Draup - Drums. Aganaroth - Guitar. Isengrim - Bass. Music style is listed as, black metal. Band location, Curse-Oslo. Styggelse-Gothenburg. WAN-Eskilstuna.

Necroholic split released on Satanath Records December 27th 2015. The first group on this split is the band Curse. They offer us four tracks with tremendous sound lingering on sludge/heavy rock. Influenced by Motorhead. Dirty and gritty distortion and pure raw riffs. "War of One" is the best song for me out of all four. Next, is the band Styggelse. Much better production quality for their recording as oppose to the other two. Their song "Angel Blood Shed", has a great feeling. Mid distortion guitar sound and heavy reverb on the vocals. They offer us four compositions and my favorite is "No Team in I", one of the memorable pieces for me is the chorus line, it is catchy and moving. The solos are on point and fit well. The final band on the split is WAN, four tracks of pure aggression with massive distortion permeate every riff. Their song "Pa Korset Vi Krass", is the dominating song for me. Malevolent and fast drumming is the stand out track by this group.

Final thoughts, an impressive split. All the bands deliver extreme doses of metal.

Drama / Perdition Winds - Split release

Drama / Perdition Winds. Drama band is made up of, Dym - Drums. Vindsarg - Guitars, Vocals. Torden - Bass. Perdition Winds is J.K.A. - Bass. R.S. - Drums. T. K. - Guitars. R.Ä. - Guitars. J.E. - Vocals. Music style is listed as, black metal. Band location, Russia-Finland.

Drama / Perdition Winds Satanath split released on 25 December 2015. A short but effective and powerful combination. Starting out with Drama. They have two songs featured on here. "Create Your Own Death", starts out with a slow and unexpected intro, it builds up into a depressing but intense journey that I really enjoyed listening to. The second song is "Gloria Mortis", a strong blast beat with catchy rhythms kicks things off and the punishment is unleashed. This song is my favorite of the two. Next up is Perdition Winds with the song "Cult of Kain", like corpses wrecking havok upon unsuspecting prey. The band offers us a song that is about thirteen minutes worth of exploration. It destroys the senses with its devastating blast and rapid tremelo guitar riffs.

Final thoughts, this split is menacing and torturous. If you like raw and relentless aggression, then look no further and add this to your collection.

Dephosphorus/Haapoja Collaboration LP

Dephosphorus/Haapoja are two bands. Dephosphorous consisting of Thanos Mantas - guitars, bass. John Votsis - drums, Panos Agoros - vocals. Genre described as Astrogrind. From Athens. Haapoja consisting of Jyri Kuukasjärvi - Vocals, Pekka Kivelä - Guitar, Tuomas Ojala - Drums, Eero Kurkinen - Bass. Hometown Oulo.

Collaboration LP Released: 12 February 2015, Handshake Inc/7 Degrees Records/Nerve Altar. After listening to this LP for a very long time on my head set, it finally started to grow on me. At first it all sounded very chaotic and did not make much sense. My views have changed. The music delivers a certain heaviness while staying of the standard composition notes. Its a good blend of grind, thrash/black metal, punk and spacial melodies. Haapoja, Pakon Sanelema and Minä Olen Herra are among my favorite songs, fast, furious and relentless. Dephosphorus music is laced with punk rock riffs and aggressive passages, Extract The Soul and  Shades Of Reality would be the most stand out songs from this split.

In conclusion, a refreshing listening experience. Both bands deliver a chaotic and aggressive music that will resonate with fans of both metal/grindcore and punk rock.
