Diabolical Raw Exclusive interview

1- Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief description of the group?

Ozan Erkmen: Hello guys! Thanks for this opportunity.

Diabolical Raw is a band that blends Black and Death Metal elements with Symphonic Metal. The history of the group dates back to 1998, the band hat continued with its ups and downs until 2005 and slit up on this date and reunited in 2019. In September 2019, our first full-length album "Estrangement" was released. In the very near future, our second album "Elegy of Fire Dusk" will be released again in September.

Where is the band from?

Erkmen: Me and Tunç, were both born in Izmir/Turkey. Then I moved to Germany and the band reunited after that. For this reason, we are mentioned on many platforms as based in Germany/Turkey. But in the late nineties, the band was founded in Izmir.

2- Elegy of Fire Dusk is the band's 2nd full album, how long did it take to write?

Ozan Tunç: when the covid 19 epidemic started, everyone had to stay at home. I had planned the second album in my head, but I couldn't take action because I couldn't find the time. I wanted to evaluate this process well. I started recording in March 2020 and the album production phase, recording phase, mixing and mastering process took about 1 year.

3- What musical influence inspires the bands compositions?

Tunç: The compositions present my difficult life, my mood and all my emotions. I have two sides of my character from childhood who are dark and just as emotional. This is the expression of the battles I have fought within myself. I compare myself to a warrior. Nothing in my life has been easy and I gave my loved ones to the grave with my own hands. These albums are the expression of my life! No musical group guided me in this album. I already knew what to do.

4- The group started in 1998, can you tells us how did you all meet?

Erkmen: When the band started play in 98, neither me nor Tunc was a part of the band. After all, we were 13-14 years old at that time and being part of a band was far from us. While the band was going through the ups and downs as I said beginning the interview, there many members changing. And in such a period, first Tunç and then I joined the band. At that time, Izmir had a small metal society, and everyone knew each other at least by name, if not close. Tunç and I knew each other and we knew about what the band's problems were, so our paths crossed here. Over time, those who founded the band left the band and then music. I can say that this band was like a school for me and Tunc for a while. We did not lower the flag.

5- The new album title is Elegy of Fire Dusk, can you give us details about the content and more in depth meaning to this title?

Erkmen: The second album has more catchy riffs than the first album. Black Metal is more dominant in this album; but Death Metal elements can be heard easily. The symphonic background is again in the foreground, as the first album, and recorded very aggressively with Black and Death metal elements.

The title of the album briefly and epicly explains the demolition of the evil forces and the evil creatures under their command on the world and the war between good side with them, in the story written by me, which is the theme of the album's concept.

6- Each member of this project is part of another band, how do you maintain a  good balance working together?

Erkmen: We help each other in our other projects. For this reason, we have information about the pace at which our projects are progressing. also, we always do our work in a planned way, so we don't experience any confusion.

7- Have you performed any shows in your area? if so, how receptive and supportive are the people to your music?

Erkmen: The first album struggled a lot with pandemic problems, so many concerts were cancelled. Later on, work on the second album started and many new ideas were created together and we preferred to wait for the completion of the second album. Therefore we have no feedback yet on our live performance; but we will put an impressive show on the stage, we are assertive in this regard.Although the pandemic has not completely passed, at least a solution has been found for concerts. With the release of the second album, Diabolical Raw will be back on stage after a long time.

8- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

Erkmen: There is a concert in Istanbul in the Winter but the date is not clear. And it's too early to give information about a tour.

9- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band, in case someone wants to book or promote the band?
