Oaks exclusive interview

Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief description of the group? Where is the band from?

Thank you for your interest in our band! We are Oaks, an instrumental progressive metal trio from Paris. The band is composed of Thibault on guitar, Julien on bass and myself, Nathan, on drums. Our first album, Genesis Of The Abstract, was released on September 30th.

Genesis of the Abstract is the band's debut full album, how long did it take to write?

To be very honest, I was not yet in the band when this album was written and recorded. After that, I think the songs are pretty cool, so I'd say there was some serious work done on it. And then, is time a tangible concept? Bim, mindfuck straight away.

What musical influence inspires the band’s compositions?

All three of us have various influences. But I think that as far as the band's music is concerned, we all more or less into Tool, Mastodon, Pink Floyd, Russian Circles and other bands preaching happiness.

Can you tell us how did you all meet?

Being in the band for only 6 months, I can only say how I met the other two: I have a hobby of pruning trees and I was about to cut down a tree, an oak, when Thibault and Julien stopped me. It's true that on closer inspection, it was a very beautiful tree. After this incident, I joined the band. The meeting between Julien and Thibault remains a mystery, however. They come from a place in France that is not even on the maps, that's to say.

The new album title is Genesis of the Abstract, can you give us details about the content and more in-depth meaning of this title?

I'm not going to tell you our dirty little secrets! Joking aside, the title of this album symbolises the journey the songs take us on. A conceptual and sensory journey around matter, emptiness and chaos. As for the rest, everyone interprets our music differently and it's very pleasant to get these reactions.

Each member of this project is part of another band, how do you maintain a good balance working together?

Are you serious? I'm learning it! Oh the fucking traitors, I'm going to do them.

Have you performed any shows in your area? if so, how receptive and supportive are the people to your music?

For the moment, we've only played two shows together in Paris. And we were bluffed to see that people reacted a lot to our music. It's really nice to hear nice feedback because we work very hard to be the best we can be.

Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

At the moment we are playing a few dates in and around Paris. We are trying to get as many dates as possible because our goal is to play live! That's where we have the most fun.

9- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band, in case someone wants to book or promote the band?

Any final words?

If someone wants to book us on a tour to support Metallica, we'd love to. Or even Metallica opening for Oaks, that would be cool too!

Otherwise, listen to our music, download it illegally if you want, as long as it speaks to you and you have that connection with us, we've done it! Thanks to you for the interview, thanks to those who will read it and see you soon!
