Exclusive interview with Kargyr

To my readers please give a warm welcome to Kargyr

1- Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief description of the group?

Where is the band from?

Hello, thank you very much for having us! Kargyr is a one-band progressive death metal band born in Lyon, FR in 2020. The aim of Kargyr is to mix heavy distorted guitars and headbanging riffs, typical of metal with eastern harmonies and influences. My ultimate goal is to make the listeners’ ears travel and their head bang!

2- "Kargyr" is the band's first EP, how long did it take to write?

Kargyr took about 2 years to write, I set out in 2020 to make a complete record by myself. That encompasses the writing, recording, mixing and mastering processes. Technically back in 2020 I already knew how to play drums / guitars / bass and I starter taking specific vocal lessons in order to be able to scream properly! Starting from there I dived into mixing and mastering techniques using our good ol’ friend the internet. That lead to many recording / mixing loops, ending up beginning of 2022 with the EP you know today!

3- What musical influence inspires the bands compositions?

Something you can hear right off the bat is that I’m a huge Gojira fan. I think it influences most of my guitar playing today and you can find this influence also in the production process, I use many superimposed guitar layers to give my sound its heaviness and thickness. In terms of harmonies though the Meshuggah / Opeth side of the force kicks in!My singing on the other hand transitions between clean and saturated, much like what you can hear in Spiritbox or Zeal & Ardor records.

4- The group started in 2020, can you tells us how did you all meet?

Not sure how I can answer that, being a one-man band ^^

5- The new album title is Kargyr, can you give us details about the content and more in depth meaning to this title?

So, Kargyr is a stylized version of the word “Kargyra” which defines an ancient vocal technique, mostly heard in mongol / tuvan songs. It’s basically the word for “throat-singing” and I use this technique a lot because it gives incredible depth to a song as a layer. You can definitely hear that on my songs “The Abyss” or “Aura”. I also use this technique “in-between” two clean vocals, as an “expression mark” to have a question-answer effect between voices. In terms of lyrics, “Kargyr” takes us through a journey in the human mind. It starts off with ‘Chronophobic”, which depicts fear of the passing time and tells how pointless the time spent is when not relating to others (little lockdown influence here I guess). The relation to other human being is also explored in “Sword” which tells us how a person can be brought to a tilting point, after which nothing but violence exists.

Finally, “Kargyr” will give you it’s own version of the end of the planet, either through a revolution of the Earth itself (“The Abyss”) or by human turning one against each other (“Aura”)

6- Have you performed any shows in your area? if so, how receptive and supportive are the people to your music?

I am currently in the process of creating my first show! I had enthousiast response of some venues near Lyon and am recruiting musicians (bass / guitars / drum player) to set this first gig in motion!

7- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

If everything goes well, the first dates should be starting in October 2022. Keeping you posted

8- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band, in case someone wants to book or promote the band?

You’re very welcome! The best way is to get in touch directly with me via my one pager www.kargyr.com (email hello@kargyr.com). You can also get real time info and fun with me on my Instagram @kargyr_metal !

Any final words?

After 2 locked-down years it’s festival season finally! Go get the moshpits you deserve you

headbangers <3
