Beltane - Anode to Leviathan

A ten song BM experience produced in 2011 by Xanataph and released through Satanica. Coming from New Zealand and writing music since 1994. In The Semetary, is the first track -good riffs decent production, I like the vocals, I can understand the lyrics without having to reach for a lyric sheet. On a Winter's night, much more BM style vocals take this one, a faster paced track. The Celtic Song (Nelsonian Black metal Chroncle) took me by surprise, clean acoustic guitar, easy lyrics content builds into an aggressive composition. Up the Hills, great drums begin this one, although I feel better production would have brought them to the front better, either way its good. Good guitars, nice arrangement patterns. Beltane have also released five previous full length albums which include Jera, Jera 2, Through Darker Seasons, Darkhovse, Auld Toby and current album in 2012 Democide, not even mentioning a slew of EPs in between, there is a library of music to explore. Back to this album, now on song five Daemon Mysterium, we hear some dual vocals, plus it sounds more raw than the previous tracks. Nacht&Nobel, something different happening on this track with female vocals taking over, more keyboard oriented piece. Pillar Point, dark and eerie track, like the rising of demons from a bottomless pit. Evils Birth, yet another surprise, sounding a bit different, maybe because of the drums, but this track has a industrial type of feeling to it. not a bad thing since I can understand the creative aspects of well rounded musicianship.
Anode to Leviathan, last song in my experience that is Beltane, it starts with keys, and builds a dark atmosphere to leave the listener wanting more. I recommend for fans of old/new school style of BM.

The Black Coffins - Dead Sky Sepulchre

Thirteen savage tracks starting with Dead Sky Burial, a haunting beginning leading into a murderous gut wrenching scream. "Chambers of Eternal Sleep", raw and powerful guitars, reminds me a bit like Agnostic Front early days. "Below The Roots" distorted bass along with punk style of rhythm on the drums, memorable riffs and verses. This band hails from Sao Paulo, this is their second full length album released through Black Hole Productions 2012. "Carve The Host", punk and hardcore influences mix with death metal is how they describe themselves and its very accurate, although I think they have their own sound developing. The album layout is appealing to me. Dark sepia format with very dark imagery including some awesome ink work for the cover. The production is pure and raw witch is perfect for the style being projected. "The Last Spectral Convoy", has to be my favorite track, like a ghost rising from deep slumber and stepping into the realm to torment the living, this is what I summarize from the lyrical content, well thought out. "Transition Compulsory" reminds me of old Sepultura track but quickly transform into a punk stomp song, very cool- dual vocals comprise the majority of these songs, which give them a unique harmonized feel. You will be interested to know they just released an EP Graveyard Incantation an it can be purchased at the bands bandcamp site- The Black Coffins Band Camp. Overall a very enjoyable experience, the band is able to mix the three genres without any bleed through. The paranormal themes and dark imagery all come together to give the listener a unique ride to remember in their worst nightmares.

1- What inspired you to do modeling? Was there a point early in your life that sparked your interest?
It all kind of happened by accident. I am a make-up artist and had been asked if I would be interested in modeling while I was doing make up on a few shoots and runway shows. I gave it a go and really enjoyed it.

2- You have dark elements to your style, was there an event or moment that made you decide on your style?
When I was little I would have to say my idols were Catwoman and Elvira. I can’t tell you why or where the draw to that look came from. It has just been that way as far back as I can recall. I remember seeing someone with a mohawk when I was about 5. I was fascinated, and thought it was so neat. Regardless of the rude comments others were saying.

Ash Jones Feature Model #23 5/2013

Introducing Ash Jones - Alt. Model - Owner & Band Promotions at The Ladies of Metal

1- What inspired you to do modeling? Was there a point early in your life that sparked your interest?
I had a few friends that were getting into photography, so I would offer to help with their projects whether it be just for fun or for their classes.

2- You have dark elements to your style, was there an event or moment that made you decide on your style?
Well, I started getting tattooed at the age of 15, alternative modeling wasn't a big thing back then and progressively over the years it became more noticeable and the bigger it got the more i felt that that was where I belonged.

3- Name some of your favorite music or bands?
The Ghost Inside will always be my #1, I actually have a tattoo with my all time favorite lyric of theirs that says "Some Hearts Never Break". The Acacia Strain. The Plot in You. Stray From The Path. The Dangerous Summer. Molotov Solution. Within The Ruins Jimmy Eat World. You Me At Six... Gah, the list will go on forever if I don't stop myself there, haha!

4- Name some of your accomplishments or highlights of your career so far?
I would definitely have to say everything that has become with Ladies of Metal has been the greatest. My best friend, Kait Miller and I have created something incredible where girls like ourselves can come together and support the hardcore/metal music scene and share the same passion for modeling.

5- Do you enjoy regular photoshoots? or ones where you get to play a character?
That's a good question! I enjoy regular shoots where I can just be me & do my own hair & make-up the way I like it. But, I also love being able to play dress up and be transformed into something different. I just recently did a pin-up photoshoot last week and the photos & came out incredible.

6- What other interest do you have besides modeling?
I have a huge passion for music and I actually run the promotions department with Ladies of Metal & I also am an A&R for a new record label that will be starting this Summer 2013. My day job I work at a Pediatric Drs office so I love being able to learn new medical terms & diagnoses everyday.

7- Are there any significant projects or events you are looking forward to in the coming months?
YES!! Ladies of Metal will be launching our official website this summer for our 7yr Anniversary, along with the announcement of the upcoming record label I will be working for, Asperity Records.

8- If someone is interested in hiring you (modeling agency, bands, producers, etc..) where is the best place to get a hold of you?

Abaddon - Abaddon

Heavy power metal band from Mexico. The band has been around since 1985 and this is their first full length. Previous release was a split in 1987, Escuadron Metalico (Proyecto Dos) in which they had one song. This album has ten tracks and is released through Last Warrior Records in 2010. Vocals are performed by Atenea and I must say she has an amazing vocal performance on this album. They label themselves power metal but I hear a thrash metal influence like early Thanatos or Iron Maiden killers.
The lyrics are all in Spanish. The title track Abaddon has a cool start, fast drums raw guitar. Claro de Luna en Misa Negra reminds me a bit of early Megadeth in the beginning. Cuenta Final, fast pace track thrash metal influence is apparent on this one. Formas Del Mal, probably my favorite song on the album, the production on the drums could be better. there are many times where I heard the drums doing some amazing stuff but because of the production it did not come through as well as it should have. Madame Bathory, clean guitar and synths make a great intro, there are also some great dual female/male vocalizing and features awesome melodic rhythms. Pesadilla Mortal, bass plays a big role on this track which is cool, I can hear how well the the bass player holds down his riffs. Noches de Metal, vocals highlight the majority of this album and this track they are particularly great, we get to hear the guitar doing some solo action and its done well. Duenos de la Obscuridad, guitars (Alfredo) and (Geocosta) has killer trade offs as well as harmonized arrangements. Overall I like the entire thing, vocals being my favorite part of this experience. I recommend this for fans of early Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Overkill and even early Flotsam n Jetsam.

Blinded By Faith - Chernobyl Survivor

Chernobyl Survivor is the latest album released by Canadian speed, death metal machine Blinded By Faith. The intensity hits me from the first few notes. The opening track immediately takes hold and delivers an introduction that tells your brain "these guys are brutal as fuck". The title track "Chernobyl Survivor" has some interesting vocals that remind me of early Exodus (Paul Baloff). There are vocal harmonies that distinguish them with an overall blend of high, mid, low and clean. You might think this is to much, but the band has figured out how to do it so that its balanced and in perfect doses. "So Speaks The Voice of Law" opening riff is great, the first verse kicks in and blows me away. I found myself digging this song and playing it loud on my stereo. "Dead End", guitars are blazing fast and precise, every riff slams. There is a high level of talent in the solos which I enjoy very much. "Stranger In The Mirror" Keyboards do an amazing job at creative passages within all the other instruments. This album also features some guest, David Habron (Keyboard) on the song "So Speak The Voice of Law" Jean-Francois Racine on the keyboard solo for "Alone", Danny Emond Keyboard and Antoine Baril Bass."Drastic Medicine", a montage of elaborate arrangements. 'Face The Race", a mosh inducing track, sort of reminds me of old At The Gates or The Haunted. "Shrivelled Wings", considering how complex the beginning of the album is, this one track is straight forward but compliments perfectly showing they can do simple riffs and stay brutal an allowing the listener to stay interested without been overdone with riffs. "Alone', reminiscent of the early days of In Flames, a memorable track that will be spinning in my thoughts for a time to come, props to the great keyboards on this song. "Bitter Aftertaste", liking the drums, they are well produced. All the rhythms add to the already powerful guitar  arrangements and bring it to the very top. "Pornscars", an interesting topic, reading the lyrics and understanding where the content is leading, the title saids it all and one has to experience the track to comprehend. "Prophet of Nothing", more on the thrash metal side of things and its a perfect way to complete this album. I recommend this band to fans of all metal genres as they deliver on all aspects of the metal spectrum you are bound to find something in each composition to enjoy.
