Helgrindur talks about their latest release

1- Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest. Our readers are excited to get to know you and your band. Could you give us a brief description of the group? Where is the band from?

Yes of course, We are Helgrindur a Pagan Metal band from Germany City: Solingen (the city of the sharpest blades and knifes) in north Rhine Westphalia.

For now, we are four members

-Beast on Vocals. Gia Rhythm guitar (my twin brother). Flemming Lead guitar and me Alessandro (Alex) drummer.

Our Story is me and my Brother had the idea back in 2010 to start a Pagan oriented Metal band where we can make songs about old fantasy and mythological stories.

First we had some Folkish influences with some “traditional instruments like Back pipes “. But we quickly figured out, that the Folkish metal aspect wasn’t good for our musical feeling or our musical direction 2011-2013 we released our Demo Songs (homemade ). In 2017 we released our first Album “Von Einst” which means from the past which was also self-made. Until then we played many shows in the underground scene around Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

2- "Helgrindur" is the band's upcoming album. How long did it take to compose and record it?

We first wrote some new songs in early 2019. Then we decided to take 10 on the Album. We were in the 4cn Studio in 2022 April.

3- What musical influences inspire the band's compositions?

Many different Styles that are Metal influenced us. Some from Black Metal, some from Death Metal, Melo Death, Folkmetal and so on.

4- Can you tell us how did the members all meet?

The Story in short is already told up there in the list.

5- The new album is self-titled. Why did you choose to name it in this way?

That’s easy, we wanted to show everyone, that we are still alive. Because of the years, many Bands came up in Germany with the idea hmmm…“lets  make some Pagan Metal ”. It was a big Hype in Germany. And almost anyone wanted to start a “Pagan/Viking metal oriented band. So the music market here was full of bands. At some point the Hype was over and most of those Bands didn’t want to make music in that direction anymore.

They Broke up or changed their Musical style. But we survived 😊

6- Are the current members of this band part of another band or project? Or is everyone dedicated solely to the group? How do you maintain a good balance working together?

Yes, after some years playing of the stage or just behind or in front of the stage we found many friends from other bands too.

So we decided to help us out if we get in trouble. The Idea was simply to help us and each other. That’s because Flemming is a Bass Player of Black Messiah, Gia and me are in Obscurity. Gia as a Rhythm Guitar player and me as a Bass Player.

Our Singer has also a second Band Skelfir.

7- Have you performed any shows in your area? If so, how receptive and supportive are the people of your music?

We played a couple of shows here in our Town. But mostly were playing everywhere else in Germany, Austria and Switzerland without our fans and friends here or somewhere else we were nothing!

They supported us the whole time! They are driving long distances just to see /hear our music live!. That’s incredible!

8- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

Yes, there is the 28.10.Turock Festival  (with Sodom, Death Angel, Obscurity and many more 😊) we are Headlining a Release club gig tour24.11.2023 in Würzburg (Germany)02.12.2023  in Lichtenfels (Germany) 4.01.2024 in Metbar (Switzerland)  There are some more Gigs in the List.

9- Thanks for your participation. Finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the group just in case someone wants to book or promote the band? Any final words?

Just write us an Email or on our Social Media Accounts. Thank you for having us! We hope that you listen to our new Album and support us 😉 If somebody is interested in Merch: We have a Bandcamp site where do you find our Official Merch  https://helgrindur.bandcamp.com/merch
