LOMOR exclusive interview

1- Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief description of Lomor? Where is the band from?

Eric : We come from Reunion Island a little French overseas county in Indian Ocean… We are a power trio with Gurvan (drums), Micha (bass) and me (vocals and guitars).

2- Perseverance of Sickness is the band's debut album, how long did it take to write?

Eric: With Gurvan, we started to compose our first songs in late 2019. The composing was finished in late 2020 I would say. But during 2021 we decided to make a lot of demos to prepare every details of each songs as we can before entering the studio. So yeah a couple of year of writing.

3- What musical influence inspires the band's compositions?

Eric (Babouk): I’m a big fan of sounds of early thrash like Slayer, Testament or Kreator, even old Metallica you know. So Lomor is quite a oldschool thrash but with some hard core or even punk touch sometimes.

4- The group started in 2018, can you tell us details?

Eric: During 2018, I had the idea of a tribute to Slayer with musicians and friends from Studiotic (an association who organize concerts here). As I learned that Gurvan played the drums, I asked him to join the team. So we played! It was an awesome concert on January 9th 2019 for the tribute. A big moment! The idea of a band of my own was in my head since a few years. So, I immediately thought of Gurvan to start something when I saw him play. And that’s it: Lomor was born! We started to compose in July 2019 I think. In early 2020, Micha joined us.

5- The new album title is Perseverance of Sickness, can you give us details about the content and more in-depth meaning of this title?

Eric: Perseverance of Sickness is a big echo in my own personal life. It’s about beloved people who disappears too early because of disease. Sickness can be perseverant when you lost your cousin than your brother in a few years! “Brother In Black” is dedicated to my brother. Besides this, the album talks about society problems, corruption or the manipulation of the masses…

6- Babouk is part of another band, how do you maintain a good balance working together?

Eric: Ha ha, you are well informed! Yes, I play in “The Hill is Burning” another band from here. A more death metal in its veins. Well, I try to find time to do both. It may be difficult with job, family but it’s fine for now. And the guys of “The Hill is Burning” are comprehensive.

7- Have you performed any shows in your area? if so, how receptive and supportive are the people to your music?

Eric: Yes, we have the chance to do a lot of gigs here on big stages, even during the pandemic! The most memorable was a show on the great and mythical stage “Teat Plein Air” in Saint-Gilles in front of 300 people seated … but very noisy ha ha ha!  It was on November 11th 2020. But the most excited one was the opening for Mass Hysteria here at “La Cité des Art” in Saint-Denis for the event “Tattoo Convention 2022 of Reunion Island” on October 29th. The crowd, 600 people, sold-out, was incredible and wild! We made a release party for the album at “Le Kabardock” venue. People was very receptive and supportive really. And I take the opportunity of this interview to thank them all!

8- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

Eric: We are currently working with our management agency (Labelistic) and some bookers to perform in the end of the year in France. But for now we are booked for the Underground Rock Festival in Mauritius Island the May, 6th (but hush, this is not announced yet … ha ha ha …)

9- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band, in case someone wants to book or promote the band? Any final words?

Eric : Well, we can get in touch via our contact page on our website for booking, phone or email. The best way to promote the band this days is to share and like stuff on the Internet and surely to come up on our shows even if, as an island band, it’s more difficult for us to be present on European stages or elsewhere. But we are working on it ha ha. So thank you for this interview, Hope to see you in France in the end of year! Cheers!
