Stramonium exclusive interview and talks of the new album Elder Moon

STRAMONIUM:

1- Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest. Thanks for taking the time to do the interview. Could you give our readers a brief description of the group? Where is the band from?

Stramonium was formed in Milan in 2018. In the beginning, we realized we wanted to go back to 70's doom, proto-metal, and garage, following models like BLACK Sabbath, Pentagram, Mc5, and many others. Within a short time, the sound of the band took a very defined shape. The most noticeable thing is precisely the retro sound that is deliberately Lo-Fi, something that in modern doom happens not so often, this feature has led our band to be appreciated even abroad and to have the honor of playing with Pentagram for their 50th-anniversary tour.

2- Elder Moon is the band's debut full album how long did it take to write?

Elder Moon is our first record, initially self-released on vinyl and only later it has been reissued and finally released by Argonata Records. The record came out very naturally after about a year of playing together then we decided it would be time to put together the songs we thought were our best to create a concept album about witchcraft, so Elder Moon was born.

3- What musical influence inspires the band's compositions?

As we already said before our musical influences are related to the 70s to early Hard Rock/Metal but also glam and rock'n'roll.

We all 4 have different influences and styles, but we can say that we deeply love Sabbath, however, we explore sounds that can also remind us of early 80's heavy metal but also glam and rock'n'roll of  T-Rex and Thin Lizzy. All this comes out and creates our definite sound world.

4- Can you tell us how did you all meet?

Basically, we were already friends before the band existed, Me (Corra singer and guitarist) and Fabio (guitarist) are long-time friends and we always had the desire to play together, the project a little bit was born for this reason, with Lorenzo (bassist) we have been friends for years because of our work, both of us are tattoo artists. Friendship with Jack (who is our second and current drummer) is related to the band as we didn't know each other before, nevertheless, we found a very good union and a great bond on stage during our live shows.

5- The new album title is  Elder Moon, can you give us details about the content and more in-depth meaning of this title?

Our record is all about esotericism and witchcraft in its various forms, but above all, it is related to the cult of the moon, something that has always intrigued me also because I come from Monza, which in ancient times was a pagan city of Germanic origins linked to the cult of the moon. In the record, you can find many references to the moon as in the son of the moon and Elder moon. The moon in both extremism and alchemy is a strong symbol, so we decided to use it in the title of the first record. The elder moon is also the wisest and the one that will shortly gonna become the new one.

6- Each member of this project is part of another band, how do you maintain a good balance working together?

At this present time, all 4 of us are solely committed to Stramonium. But if in the future we would like to have other musical projects as well, it would be no problem.

7- Have you performed any shows in your area? if so, how receptive and supportive are the people of your music?

We have been lucky enough to play several concerts both in our areas and also outside around north of Italy, and we are happy and proud to be able to say that we are a strong live band that can get people who come to see us, this is probably due precisely to the typic rock'n'roll root we have. We are also looking forward to reaching abroad.

8- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

We recently played with two bands touring for heavy psych records, the Kadabra and the Warlung, and we will soon have more dates. Unfortunately, there is no tour for us yet. We hope that with the help of our label Argonauta, a performance tour for the Stramonium will come up soon. We can tell you that a few gigs are confirmed for the upcoming spring and summer.

9- Thanks for your participation. Finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band in case someone wants to book or promote the band?

Any final words?

Thank you very much for the interview, in case anyone wants to contact us they can do it through our Instagram page (stramonium band) or our label Argonauta Records
