The Same River exclusive interview

Please give a warm welcome to The Same River

1- Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief description of the group?

Where is the band from?

Hey hey Metal Music Midwest, thank you for having us! We are The Same River, a Heavy/Psych/Rock band formed in September 2019, and we are from Athens, Greece.

2- "Weight of the World" is the band's first full album, how long did it take to write?

We were composing our songs for almost 8 months during the Covid-19 lockdown in Greece, and once we had the songs ready we recorded all parts. Drums and bass guitar in almost 2 days. After that we recorded guitar parts, solos and all the effects for post production in 6 days. Last but not least our singer/guitar player (Diamond) had his own “inspiration ceremony” for a few days in his home studio, and after a few days he completed all the vocals of the album!

3- What musical influence inspires the band's compositions?

Donovan, Pink Floyd, All Them Witches and of course Black Sabbath!

4- The group started in 2019, can you tell us how did you all meet?

Diamond and Dimitris had a different band back then (Cyanna Mercury) and they wanted to create a new one with a heavy psychedelic rock sound. They were searching for a drummer and one of their  friends recommended Fivos. A few days later Fivos told me that he will join a band with a heavy bluesy sound and since we have been friends and bandmates for more than 11 years, I asked him if they need another guitar player. A few days later I met the rest of the guys and started jams and rehearsals.

5- The new album title is "Weight of the World", can you give us details about the content and more in depth meaning to this title?

For me, this record is my way to express my emotions during the pandemic, multiple lockdowns, lack of actual freedom, work pressure, and daily stress! Struggling to find the balance between reality and our dreams. Do you know the weight? If you don’t just listen to our album, maybe we will help you find your own balance.

6- Each member of this project is part of another band, how do you maintain a good balance working together?

Pretty simple, we love music so that’s why we have a few more projects playing different genres of music! Also, we love this band and the way that the four of us communicate and compose together. The Same River is always our first priority.

7- Have you performed any shows in your area? If so, how receptive and supportive are the people to your music?

Unfortunately we were not so lucky about our scheduled gigs! As you know the band was formed during Covid-19 and here in Greece the gigs were forbidden for 2 years. It's also funny that our 2 latest gigs, one on 23rd of March 2022 and one on 11th of June 2022 were also canceled due to other band members’ having Covid, a few days before the gig.

8- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

Yes of course, and we are so happy about it 'cause will be our first live as a band on 26th of August, in an amazing fest (somewhere into the woods), called Ziria. And of course we will have more announcements for our upcoming gigs soon. So… stay tuned!

9- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band, in case someone wants to book or promote the band? Any final words?

You can connect with us through bands' email:

As for final words... for us it's really important to express ourselves, connect with the people, and share our thoughts, and you are giving us the opportunity to do so! Once again, thank you for having us. Hope you enjoyed the “Weight Of The World”. Cheers!
