Deimos Dawn exclusive interview

1-Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for
taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief
description of the band? Where is it from?

Hi everyone, I am Andy, the guitar player of Deimos’ Dawn. Many
thanks for that interview, I will give my best to answer your questions.
We are a German Thrash Metal band, located in Berlin. Everyone of
us is in the business since decades, mostly known our singer Marc
Grewe as former front man of the German Death Metal band Morgoth.
We play a mixture of classic and modern Thrash, but clearly, we have
our roots in the classic albums of bands like Slayer, Sodom, Kreator or
Sepultura.

2- “Anthem Of The Lost” is your upcoming LP, how long did it take to
compose it?

We wrote the first song during an instrumental session in 2017. That
was a song later called “The 4th Wall”. At that point we have not
decided to form a band, it was just a session among friends. But it felt
that damn good, that we decided to found that what is Deimos’ Dawn
today. Until Marc has arrived we composed and pre-recorded about 7
songs, but collected a lot more ideas. After his arrival we re-arranged
the songs with him and wrote a lot new stuff together. Out of the
portfolio we selected the 12 songs for the album in spring 2020.

3- What musical influences inspired the songwriting?

I am pretty much the Thrash Metal guy in the band and I wrote most of
the stuff. I am very much a fan of the German Thrash bands like
Sodom and Kreator, but of course also Slayer and other classic bands
from that era. Another big fave of mine is Grip Inc.. But I love also a
strong chorus with a hook line, you can call that a bit of Hard Rock
appeal, that goes into the songs, too. But we have also other
influences, like Marc´s Death Metal roots or Matze´s time as a bass
player in several Hardcore bands.

4- When the band started? Can you tells us more?

We started around 2017, but we completed the line-up when our
singer Marc Grewe (ex-Morgoth) joined the band in 2019. We 3
instrumentalists are playing together in different bands since the 90s,
when we were teenagers. This is the foundation of our blind
understanding and tight groove. We did not play together in a regular
band for about 10 years, but we did sessions almost every year,
without any target. The spark was lit again in 2017.

5- The album title is “Anthem Of The Lost”, can you give us details
about the content and more in depth meaning to this title?

I must say that we are becoming more and more concerned about the
state of the world. It is not only the individual crises, such as the war in
Ukraine, economic and financial crises, which worry us. Rather, we
see in the ongoing crises an expression that the system in which we
live is gradually coming to an end. You cannot grow endlessly on a
planet with limited space and resources. But growth is the only basis
for the stability of our economic system. It can't work forever and it
looks like we are getting much closer to the end. So, we – the humans
– are lost ones. I know this is not a very optimistic view. Maybe there
is a way out in the future that we don't see today. But we use the
music and the lyrics to express our concerns.

6- Have you performed any shows in your area? If so, how receptive
and supportive are the people to your music?

We played a few festivals and club shows until now, and I have to say,
the reactions were stunning. We entered the stage in front of a crowd
that did not know a single note of us, but we conquered it every time.
That was amazing and we understood, we kick ass!

7- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

Next is headlining a club show in Germany with 2 other well-known
Thrash bands in Germany, Final Cry and Surgical Strike. Actually, this
show was planned as our record release show, but is has to be
postponed by some reasons. Furthermore, there are some support
shows for one of the big German Thrashers in planning as well as
some festivals. But all these gigs are still in negotiation. 2023 is -
because of the after-effects of the Covid-crises – a very difficult year
to book shows.

8- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a
hold of the band, in case someone wants to book or promote you?
Any final words?
