Grandiosa Muerte exclusive interview

1- Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief description of Grandiosa Muerte? Where is the band from?

Thank you for having me in the powerful Metal Music Midwest. I'm Max, founder of Grandiosa Muerte. In the shape of Hermes the band was born in Heredia, Costa Rica, as a personal need to exorcize myself from mental and spiritual struggles amplified during the pandemic With over 25 years of experience as a Metal musician and 15 years as a producer in the Metal and Rock genres, I realized it was time for my solo project. Thus, I take on all conceptual, lyrical and musical responsibilities, as well as producing and promoting Grandiosa Muerte.

2- Egregor is the band's debut album, how long did it take to write?

The process started somewhere between 2017-2018 and ended in January 2021.

3- What musical influence inspires the band's compositions?

I can say the musical spectrum influencing Grandiosa Muerte is broad, starting with personal pillar bands from the 90’s like Sepultura, Pantera, Deicide, Dissection; adding Industrial/Metal references like White Zombie, Ministry and even some Kraftwerk. Then we have the more dark and somber elements influenced by Portal, Funeral Mist and Akhlys.

4- The group started in 2021, can you tell us details?

Officially Grandiosa Muerte was born in the middle of 2021 when the name was finally chosen and the process of choosing it underwent constant evolution and was ultimately solidified once all the music and lyrics were significantly developed. Rushing was never a concern for this project and I was confident that the name would become evident at the appropriate moment.

5- The new album title is Egregor, can you give us details about the content and more in-depth meaning of this title?

An Egregore is a concept used in occultism and certain spiritual and esoteric currents. It refers to a collective entity formed by the consciousness and energy of a group of people who have joined together for a common purpose. An Egregore is capable of influencing the minds and behavior of the people who are part of the group, and it can also have an external presence and be perceived by people outside the group and it feeds on the energy and consciousness of the people who make it up, acquiring a certain autonomy and becoming more powerful as more people join the group.

With this in mind, each song is inspired in different aspects of the occult, telling an history based on concepts that I do consider important like the Tarot in “Arcano”, the Mayan teachings in “Destino”, the Kybalion in “Mercurio” and the Black Madonnas in “Sincretismo”; we have gnosticism in “Hereje”, alchemy in “Oculto, theosophy in “Isis sin Velo” and oracles in “Sibila”.

6- How do you maintain a good balance working together with three bands?

Both Grandiosa Muerte and Dusk are more focused on studio production, although some live events might occur. This allows me to focus time on Advent of Bedlam when the time comes: this band has far more different needs and live shows are more frequent when we are not writing new material.

7- Have you performed any shows in your area? If so, how receptive and supportive are the people to your music?

Although Grandiosa Muerte is still a studio effort, the reception for the recently released debut album “Egregor” has been quite amazing and surprisingly for me, the support has been resoundingly higher in countries with languages other than Spanish! Of course there have been good reception in Mexico and Brazil as well.

8- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

There are no specific dates but I feel the time for a live show is getting closer.

9- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band, in case someone wants to book or promote the band? Any final words?

Thank you for your time and support to Grandiosa Muerte! You can reach Hermes at www.grandiosamuerte.com and also through the band’s Bandcamp at www.grandiosamuerte.bandcamp.com.
