Magefa exclusive interview and their new single Pathology Calls

1-Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief description of the band? Where is the band from?

Kai (Drums) :

Hey Metal Music Midwest! Thanks for having us and I’m glad to answer your questions .We are : MAGEFA- Death Metal from Germany , since 2014 . The band’s name MAG-E-FA (Pronounced with hard G) comes from Hebrew and means Plague.

Releases history : Mostly inspired by the medical field, a first demo was made in 2016 called “A Peek Into Human Bodies”. We developed more songs to form a LP but split that into two separate EP’s.

The first was released in 2019 called “New Era of Darkness” and followed by 2021 “Exenteration”. As Covid hit us all Kai and Kevin had to search not only for new members but also for a new rehearsal room.

Now we’re back and stronger than ever. We’re currently planning another album for mid 2023. Actual members:

Kai (2014-) -Drums, Kevin (2014-) – Guitars / Vocals, Andreas (2022-) -Bass, Nico (2022-) -Guitars

2- “Pathology Calls” is your new single, how long did it take to write it?

Kai (Drums) : Pathology Calls released on Jan 6 , 2023 .We actually started working on it in 2021 , together with Overdose and Back To The Front (both singles released in 2022) .We wrote all those 3 singles in 1 month, but took the time to fine tune to perfection before recording and mix .

3- What musical influences inspired the songwriting?

Kai (Drums) : On the death metal part mostly Dying Fetus, Carcass, Cannibal Corpse and Bolt Thrower. On the Core part something like Thy Art Is Murder, Whitechapel, Napalm Death.

4- When the band started? Can you tell us more?

Kai (Drums) : We started in 2014 in Frankfurt, Germany. The early songs were written by Kevin (Lead Guitar/Vocals) and developed over a couple of months with the band. With each of the original members having different music influences , it took us some time to get where we want with our music . If you listen to our early releases , you can hear the differences and how our music has evolved since with ‘Pathology Calls’ .

5- The song title is “Pathology Calls”, can you give us details about the content and more in depth meaning to this title?

Kai (Drums) : We were inspired by the brutal song arrangement of some deathcore bands. So, we wrote a song more into that style with our own interpretation of it. As for the content and lyrics, there is a lot you can rage about in life ,and same goes for the medical field and we were questioning some structures or procedures. Nobody thinks about hospitals and its staff until you need it. The song was written and based on the day job of the band’s lead guitarist/singer Kevin as surgery assistant for patients with brain tumors and remote chances of survival.

6- Have you performed any shows in your area? If so, how receptive and supportive are the people to your music?

Kai (Drums) : With our many influences, our music provides for any extreme metalhead enough reasons to jump, go in the pit and get crazy. We include all our best songs in our live setlist, and we perform our songs for perfect destruction. Over the last couple of years , we didn’t perform live , due to Covid-19 and band members replacement along with some logistic challenges after being kicked out of our old rehearsal room in one of the old bunkers in Frankfurt. Now we’re back and stronger than ever, with Nico and Andreas who joined us recently .

7- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

Kai (Drums) : not yet , but stay tuned and follow us on IG/FB and co. We are arranging some shows at the moment and will announce in the next weeks .

8- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band, in case someone wants to book or promote you?
