Uburen - Exclusive interview talking about their new album Usurp The Throne

1-Hello and welcome to Metal Music Midwest, first off, thanks for taking the time to do the interview, could you give our readers a brief description of the band? Where is the band from?

Hello Metal Music Midwest, thank you for having us. We are Uburen, a 3-piece Black metal band form the south-west coast of Norway.

2- “Usurp The Throne” is your new album, how long did it take to write it?

Originally it took just around a year, but since covid hit we ended up holding the release back until we could tour with the album, little did we know the pandemic would shut everything down for years. During that time we tried working with other studios for the mix and master plus added more tracks. In the end we did all the production from start to finish ourselves and the project has been dragged out to 3 years now.

3- What musical influences inspired the songwriting?

We take inspiration from a vast expanse of genres, but we all started with the same love for the Norwegian black metal scene, its kind of in the blood of all Norwegians.

4- When the band started? Can you tells us more?

Uburen was started as Bior and Ask together with other members split from other projects back in 2010, we wanted to play a more serious style of Viking/black metal, we found ourselves not wanting to do that whole saying Odin and mead in every other verse nor hailing Satan and darkness. Since then the band as had a lot of line-up changes and has ended up as it is today with the brothers Bior and Ask and new blood Wrage having the same mindset and goals.

5- The album title is “Usurp The Throne”, can you give us details about the content and more in depth meaning to this title?

The Idea behind the title Usurp the Throne is a look into the black metal scene, the old kings of the genre are not the same as they once were and the big mainstream labels’ strangle hold on festivals, tours and exposure is therefore what we try to do a Usurping of, whilst trying to find our place amongst the titans of the genre without bending a knee to the corporations.

6- Have you performed any shows in your area? If so, how receptive and supportive are the people to your music?

We have played several shows around in Norway but our big joy is traveling seeing new country’s and playing for people from Russia to Mexico and anywhere in between.

7- Are there any upcoming shows or tours you can tell us about?

Bior our bass player and co-vocalist is having his first child any day now, so we’ve held back on making any concrete plans in the near future. But we’re working on several tours around Europe and Latin America hopefully for the end of this year.

8- Thanks for your participation, finally, what is the best way to get a hold of the band, in case someone wants to book or promote you? Any final words?

We are our own booking and management so we’re always up for a show, if anyone wants to book Uburen we promise to bring all  we got, every single show, just contact us on any of our social media or E-mail us directly on Uburenband@Gmail.com.
